Over the past couple of years, I've noticed a shift away from Mel Kiper Jr. and towards NFL Network's Mike Mayock as the draft maven of choice among those who follow this stuff like Trekkies. Here are Mayock's preliminary Draft Prospect Rankings:
QUARTERBACKS
1. Matt Ryan - Boston College
2. Chad Henne - Michigan
3. Brian Brohm - Louisville
4. Joe Flacco - Delaware
5. Andre Woodson - Kentucky
RUNNINGBACKS
1. Rashard Mendenhall - Illinois
2. Darren McFadden - Arkansas
3. Jonathan Stewart - Oregon
4. Felix Jones - Arkansas
5. Chris Johnson - East Carolina
WIDE RECEIVERS
1. Mario Manningham - Michigan
2. DeShean Jackson - California
3. Limas Sweed - Texas
4. Malcom Kelly - Oklahoma
5. Early Doucet - LSU
TIGHT ENDS
1. Fred Davis - USC
2. John Carlson - Notre Dame
3. Dustin Keller - Purdue
4. Brad Cottam - Tennessee
5. Kellen Davis - Michigan St.
By way of comparison, here are the players on Mel Kiper's Top 25 list:
RB1 - Darren McFadden - 1st overall
QB1 - Matt Ryan - 3rd
RB2 - Jonathan Stewart - 10th
RB3 - Felix Jones - 15th
RB4 - Rashard Mendenhall - 20th
TE1 - Fred Davis - 21st
WR1 - Malcom Kelly - 22nd
WR2 - DeShean Jackson - 23rd
