Welcome to the "Original" Dynasty Rankings Fantasy Football Blog

This blog was born out of a Dynasty Rankings thread originally begun in October, 2006 at the Footballguys.com message boards. The rankings in that thread and the ensuing wall-to-wall discussion of player values and dynasty league strategy took on a life of its own at over 275 pages and 700,000 page views. The result is what you see in the sidebar under "Updated Positional Rankings": a comprehensive ranking of dynasty league fantasy football players by position on a tiered, weighted scale. In the tradition of the original footballguys.com Dynasty Rankings thread, intelligent debate is welcome and encouraged.

I'll Tumble for You

I'm going to try to make this a weekly Monday afternoon feature, but I need to hear back from Rotoworld before I provide more than a sample. It might be included in their Season Pass material, so I don't want to post the whole article here.

Whose Dynasty value is tumbling after the third Sunday of the season?

QUARTERBACKS
1. Derek Anderson, Browns - His confidence is shaken, there are whispers that his preseason concussion was more serious than the team first let on, and he's hearing Brady Quinn's footsteps. He's not long for the starting job in Cleveland.
2. Matt Schaub, Texans - Another quarterback with a clipboard-holder bearing down on the job if he can't pull it together. Schaub was hurt by Andre Johnson's two scoring drops Sunday, but he's not helping matters by crumbling behind a struggling O-Line.
3. Jon Kitna, Lions - Another wasted season by the Lions will have the franchise turning to 2007 second rounder Drew Stanton. Kitna's sprained knee could expedite the process.
4. Ben Roethlisberger, Steelers - Big Ben is a dominant talent, but he'd have to be the Man of Steel to hold up to the beating he's taking on a weekly basis.
5. Marc Bulger, Rams - The Rams are in free-fall mode, and Bulger isn't playing any better than the rest of the squad. Banking on his value to bounce back at any time in the next year or two is looking like a poor bet.
6. Matt Cassel, Patriots - The so-called experts were wrong. Cassel was the ballyhooed Week 2 waiver wire darling in many circles, but a quarterback who was almost cut after a dismal preseason wasn't going to step in and lead an explosive air attack. He's simply not good enough. Don't blame me for the Week 2 hype -- I did my best to quell the idea that Cassel was a fantasy savior.
7. Joe Flacco, Ravens - The defense and rushing attack are winning games for the Ravens in spite of Flacco's poor play. A healthy Troy Smith may enter the fray in a couple of weeks.
8. Tyler Thigpen, Chiefs - Brodie Croyle is awful, but now we know that Thigpen will never be a part of the Chiefs future. He has no business on an NFL football field. Herm Edwards is not playing to win the game, and he should be canned by Monday night for subjecting the league to a traveshamockery at quarterback.

RUNNINGBACKS

1. Kevin Smith, Lions
2. Jamal Lewis, Browns
3. Laurence Maroney, Patriots
4. Earnest Graham, Buccaneers
5. DeAngelo Williams, Panthers
6. Maurice Morris, Seahawks

WIDE RECEIVERS
1. Randy Moss, Patriots
2. Torry Holt, Rams
3. Braylon Edwards, Browns
4. Roy Williams, Lions
5. Patrick Crayton, Cowboys
6. Joey Galloway, Buccaneers
7. Courtney Taylor, Seahawks

TIGHT ENDS
1. Vernon Davis, 49ers
2. Alge Crumpler, Titans
3. Marcedes Lewis, Jaguars

KICKERS
1. Martin Gramatica, Saints

Agreed on most of those but...

Maroney seems like he could be a good buy-low guy. With the passing game being mediocre at best, they can't afford to rest him until the playoffs like last year. He's clearly their most talented runner(maybe only) and may be needed to carry the ball 20+ times a game for them to sustain offense. I can't see his value falling just because it wasn't really that high to begin with.

Roy Williams is another guy who seems like a good buy-low(for dynasties anyway) he's done next to nothing this season, but a new QB may look to him more than Kitna has been and with all the talking he's been doing maybe he's more likely to get out of Detroit and on a real team.

Love your insights. I am not sure if you have actually watched the Ravens games. Flacco has shown a lot. I am not suggesting that all of the sudden he is going to have 300 yard games, but I would not call his play "poor" and I doubt we will be seeing Troy Smith anytime soon.
