Welcome to the "Original" Dynasty Rankings Fantasy Football Blog

This blog was born out of a Dynasty Rankings thread originally begun in October, 2006 at the Footballguys.com message boards. The rankings in that thread and the ensuing wall-to-wall discussion of player values and dynasty league strategy took on a life of its own at over 275 pages and 700,000 page views. The result is what you see in the sidebar under "Updated Positional Rankings": a comprehensive ranking of dynasty league fantasy football players by position on a tiered, weighted scale. In the tradition of the original footballguys.com Dynasty Rankings thread, intelligent debate is welcome and encouraged.

Buy LT and sell Westbrook? I was thinking the opposite.

What can I say? I think the opposite. I would imagine you can get LT a whole hell of a lot cheaper right now.

Philly ready to crater? Eagles to grab a backfield partner?

No sooner did I write that comment then I heard that Westbrook may need knee surgery... Oops

what do you have against slaton? he's a good young RB on an up and coming offense. I know they'll probably end up bringing in a goaline back but I think he's just scratching the surface of what we can expect from him.

I personally would look to deal Slaton because I think he'll always be paired with another back. History tells us that every successful rookie runner doesn't keep getting better and many crater. I think Slaton's rookie year will end up being his most valuable fantasy season.

I don't see him as a young stud RB, but I know there a lot of guys who do value him that highly. To me, that's what makes him such a sell right now. I think you can cash in and get an outstanding return.

Most teams use a two RB system anyway. the feature back is rapidly going the way of the dinosaur. Just because Slaton was drafted to be a third down back and turned into a good starter doesn't mean that he over achieved. Hell look at Royal in Denver. He was drafted to be a returner and turned out to be an every down starting WR. Slatons skill set reminds me of westbrook when he was younger. which if you're in a PPR dynasty league, makes him very valuable. we will have to agree to disagree on this one! I give you credit though, you're rankings are usually spot on.

Right. I agree that most teams use a committee -- they always have. The problem is that Slaton is going to get replaced in short yardage and at the goal-line, which makes him what? A slightly slower Willie Parker with better pass catching skills?

You can compare him to a guy like Chris Johnson, but Johnson is much more talented and did his damage against 8- and 9-man fronts. Slaton is good, but he's not living off of elite talent like Johnson is. He can replaced in the Texans offense just like Addai could always be replaced in the Colts offense.

I'm not saying I'm right that he's going to lose value. It's just a judgment call. If I owned him, I would sell him high right now b/c I know there are a lot of guys like you who value him as a stud.
