One anomaly I found is that for an offense that is becoming more pass heavy, a place can only be found for 3 WR's from San Diego, two of which are ranked 73 & 125. Granted the situation is less clear cut that Indy, Green Bay, New Orleans but I thought you would have ranked someone (Naanee for mine personally) higher with their sleeper value.
I think it's a common misconception that the Chargers are becoming a pass-heavy offense. Rivers was the only QB in the Top-15 not to top 500 attempts. In fact, he's been consistently between 460 and 486 attempts in each of the past four seasons.
Wess, love your rankings you are the best, however two issues with WR rankings:
1) Megatron with a increased score to match Fitz and AJ. He has only had one above average season out of three. He needs to show more production especially with a young QB who could really still be a candidate to bust behind a really bad o-line.
2) Dez Bryant at #9?!?! You have him on par with Reggie Wayne and ahead of Marshall, etc. He was not even the highest drafted player at his position in the draft, has a ways to go to even be the #2 WR in Dallas and he is a rookie WR!!! 22 teams passed on him and yes the Randy Moss precident, etc but clearly he is no lock to be a star- he should be ranked down closer to Bey Bey Thomas.
Hey T.Cumming. Good to hear from you.
RE: Bryant. I know it's a bold/controversial ranking. I'm cool with that. Keep in mind that I drew criticism when I had Percy Harvin, Chris Johnson, Adrian Peterson, and Calvin Johnson ranked higher than anyone else had them ranked . . . before they ever stepped foot on the field.
RE: Calvin. Yeah, we just disagree. Considering his age, I actually considered putting him at No. 1. He's the most dominant talent in the league at his position, and the Lions are going to surprise a lot of people on offense this year.
Love the rankings!
Just pointing out, Brandon LaFell is 23, not 32.
Just wondering why Chambers is so low...sure he should be anywhere in the top 50, but surely he deserves a spot in Tier Five somewhere.
Full offseason with his new QB, he is only 31...plus from his second game in KC he ranked (well in my league anyway, but its all I have) 13th among ALL WRs the rest of the season when teams needed him most!
So show some love for a guy bouncing back and move him up a little. The drafts will prove me right, he is one people will nab late as a sleeper. I would tag him onto the end of the tier at 72 at WORST!
that was...sure he shouldnt be anywhere in the top 50, but surely he deserves a spot in Tier Five somewhere.
Hi Nate,
He's ranked low for several reasons:
1. His late-season success was an aberration, coming as it did with D-Bowe suspended.
2. He's 31 and has only had sporadic fantasy value of the past 2 seasons. There's no reason to believe he's any more reliable than another generic veteran. Frankly, I'd much rather carry Jabar Gaffney as the Broncos' possible #1 for 2010.
3. Try shopping him to see if you get any bites whatsoever. If he was offered to me for free, I'm not sure I'd carry him on my 25-man Dynasty roster. He's not a building block, so as an aging player he'd have to be startable for me. I can find players like him pretty easily.
I have him for a buck in my contract auction league, and its only 20 teams. No real reason to drop him until he proves it all a fluke. Cribbs is about the only other guy in that tier Id like to own as well. Right after Doucett would be a good fit, and he will be there soon enough, just watch.
Oh, and Im neither a KC fan or a Chambers fan, just stating facts...and 31 is young compared to I dunno, MASON!
There's a debate going on in our dynasty league as to the relative value of Hines Ward vs Donald Driver. You have Ward as clearly more valuable. Any insight into this debate?
Hey jmc,
I do value Ward more highly and here's why:
1. He's a full year younger, which matters in the mid-30s.
2. Santonio Holmes is gone, which means Ward is back to being the clear No. 1 WR. For aging WRs, this is important b/c it means they can be a weekly asset in the present even if there's no future value.
3. Ward has more receptions, yards, and TDs than Driver the past 2 years. I expect that to continue.
4. Ward has been a better fantasy WR than Driver in each of the past 2 seasons. I expect that to continue.
5. Driver faded badly down the stretch last season. That might mean nothing, but I'm wary of late-season fades when a player is reaching the age where we expect him to toe the cliff.
Great rankings. Really love the bold Dez Bryant statement. I'm trying to trade my way to the #1 overall pick in my draft to insure getting him.
Is there an ETA on TE rankings? Do you forsee any bold statements coming there? I've been going through mine, and I keep wanting to put Finley #1, but it's hard to move him past Gates or Davis (although all those TDs last year could be a bit anomalous).
Love the blog.
any plans to revise those Chargers rankings yet?
Love the rankings. Well put.
Is this ranking PPR?
Dez Bryant ranking was bang on!!
Dez Bryant keep up the good work!no matter what controversial you are facing...im still your fan.
